How It Works

The VSLA model: simple, transparent, member-owned.

A Village Savings & Loan Association is a community's own bank. No outside money is needed — members save together, lend to each other, and share the profits.

01

Join & form a group

Community members come together and agree on simple rules: how much to save, when to meet, and how decisions are made. Everyone has a voice.

02

Save weekly

At each meeting, members buy shares with their savings. Every contribution is recorded openly in front of the whole group — nothing is hidden.

03

Borrow affordably

Members can take loans from the pooled savings to handle emergencies, school fees, or grow a small business — at fair rates set by the group itself.

04

Repay & grow the fund

Loans are repaid with a small service charge, so the fund grows. The money stays in the community instead of going to outside lenders.

05

Share out & start again

At the end of each cycle (usually 9–12 months), all savings and profits are shared out transparently to members — then a new cycle begins.
